Hi
I guess I was thinking I have more questions about the copyright issues...
WTC now, I think, owns the rights to DQ, with some of the unpublished
stuff in "Limbo".
Do you have anyone at WTC that can sign off on publishing this
stuff as open source?
Do you know if they'd sell the rights and how much they'd want, if
not? They did not answer my question to that effect, nor did the
former owners (TSR). I know at least one other person made an offer
that they responded no to-- he didn't want to pay what they wanted
at the time (which was an unreasonable amount).
One of the 'neatest' pieces of work, unfortunately, I'm pretty sure
is unlikely to get permission to see the light of day (all I can say is
to study the list of planned suppliments very carefully and realize
at least one more, other than arcane wisdom, was done), but if you
have any sort of sign-off from WTC I can try to ask the author if he'd
admit to having actually finished it and then he can maybe publish it
or something (he's still in the gaming industry).
Also, contact some of the play-testers from the group and see
if they have any copies they have permission to give out.
In an apazine back about 18 years ago I did do something called
"DragonQuest the Superhero Game". I even play tested it several
times - in about 4 sides of paper I was able to convert DQ to
Superhero genre use. I will try to find that (that may be lost) and
make a copy available. It got good reviews from those that
tried it.
Also there were some DQ articles in Dragon while they made
the pretense of continuing Ares - some of them were good. I know
the idea of the background tables made it to my list of rules I
use.
Finally, I have a champions program in construction - since
I ran DQ lately a few times I started to add DQ rules and such.
That entailed digging up some of the special sheets I used to
hand out, like city information sheets, environmental encounter
sheets, etc. I have no copies on computer any more but given
time I can re-create them from the print copies and make them
available also.
I also have a couple of other spell backfire tables - that is
something else that someone might want to 'collect' along with
other sets of house rules.
